We’re off to England!

5 07 2010

The season is over. And what a season it was! Amazing wind and a great bunch of people that i am honoured to have shared the good times with. Thank you Airstylers Family!!!

So the wife and I are off back to the UK for summer – kiting in thick wetsuits – ugh!! At least the wind should be good. Armed with a brand new 7m and 9m prime i aim to get some pics of me jumping piers too!! (or maybe not…)

See you again in November!!

May in Pranburi – roundup of the conditions here in Thailand in May 2010

2 06 2010

wind average – 11-18kts all SE

The end is nigh!!
Usually the end of may is the end of our season, so good wind is just a blessing. Fortunately we were blessed quite a lot! At least half the month was kiteable, with quite a few 18-20kt days.
It was eerily quiet in pranburi, not many tourists chose to come to thailand this month. We did our best to remain a place of calm, acceptance and friendliness. After all a kite is a good thing whatever colour it is…

March in Pranburi – roundup of the conditions here in Thailand in March 2010

Competition month this month!
The PKRA – Professional Kiteboard Riders Association came to Hua Hin for the first competition of 2010. It was a fantastic setting, great competition, and lots of fun. It’s truly amazing to see professional kiteboarders throwing tricks right in front of you.
And then the KTA – Kiteboard Tour Asia came to our very own Pranburi! Hosted by the Evason, the final party was world class. The standard in Asia is getting pretty high now, with the local riders getting some excellent scores.

Check out the videos on youtube>>

We hosted our first ever masterclass – “Intermediate Tricks with Intermediate Col!” Why ‘intermediate col’? Check out the new Progression Intermediate DVD due to be released very soon. I am officially intermediate!!

January in Pranburi – roundup of the conditions here in Thailand in January 2010

3 02 2010

wind average – 12-16kts sometimes NE sometimes SE

A strange month compared to last year – we had some good strong North Easterlies at the end of December but then for some crazy reason we got 10 days of South Easterly over christmas and new year. Weird! Then back to the normal N.Easterly for a bit, then straight into S.Easterly by the end of Jan.
Difficult to plan the lessons, but we got had some excellent students and all coped very well.
The Christmas and New year’s parties were great – fire out the back of the shop, guitars, good food. just what we like!

Where did all the blue skies go?!?!
October is a rainy month all over Thailand but still I don’t like it!
There is one silver lining though – it reminds me of home…

Airstylers Kite School is now open!

www.airstylerskiteschool.com

ok ok the website is not quite done yet – i’m making a ‘super duper hero’ of a website. Well trying to…
But we have wind, and sun, and clear water, and still nobody on the beach!

So I got to play a little yesterday…

Stormy waters!

5 03 2009

all is peaceful and beautiful on the water – but not so relaxing on land! that’s part of the beauty of watersports – you’re far away from the crowd, far away from work, far far away from your troubles.

this week has seen plenty of anger on land, so i’ve decided to set up my own kite school. it’s for the best really – i can teach the way i want to teach – the best way. the quickest way. the best value way for my students. that’s got to be for the best!

stay tuned to this space – i’ll let you know when we’re up and running!!

The wind’s back!!

15 02 2009

riding 4pm-7pm 11-17kts

sorry i didn’t tell anyone – was having a bit too much fun!
it’s the start of the thermal season – but as it’s just starting the wind only comes in about 4pm. it’s fine for teaching at 3, and then riding is good at 4, and then if you stay out until 6 you get some great cold gusts coming at you! it’s quite eerie kiting with the sun behind the mountains – the water goes all grey and you get half the light of daytime. i like it!!

Great conditions for learning!

4 01 2009

riding 10.30am-2pm 13-16kts
Ashley got to grips with the kite in an instant and found that whilst bodydragging he could launch himself almost totally out of the water by pulling in hard on the bar. the first couple of times i thought ‘oh my god!!’ but when i realised it was intentional i just laughed with him. he was a happy camper today!!
