Southerlies have started!

Yesterday’s wind – 12-15kts, starting 12-5pm, best time 2-4pm

At last! After 3 days of hard waiting, the regular thermal sea breezes start up. We may get the odd northerly push in the next couple of weeks if a strange weather system comes through, but most likely we now have the beautiful southerly wind for the rest of the season. Yippee!!! Nice winds, lots of sunshine, flat water, big beaches and warm warm water. I love this time of the season! Easy easy teaching conditions and easy easy learning. It really doesn’t get much better than this for learning…

Santa loves kitesurfers!!

He must do – we all said “Santa i’ve been good this year i would like 20kts and sunshine on Christmas Day” – and he brought it! Big waves too – maybe a little too big at times (the times when you’re chewed up under one) but lots and lots of excitement.

And now a week with slightly less wind before the big winds come for new year. Bring it on!!!

Mel and Jay have always wanted to learn to Kitesurf, and now they live in Thailand it’s the perfect time! Warm water, good winds, beautiful beach, and friendly Airstylers Family around.

Jay was quitely confident, Mel was very unsure how she would do, but both turned out to be amazing students! It’s a pleasure to teach you both! They’re both riding now – a little shakily of course – but another couple of days and they’ll get it for sure. I’m happy to welcome you to the Family!!

Phil has a list of things he wants to do. Number 142 is learn to kitesurf. So he was wrapped when David (thanks Dave!) said ‘hey i’m going kitesurfing this weekend – wanna come?’ ‘yes yes yes!!’ says Phil.

In 3 short days Phil was up and riding like an expert. (well experts crash too…) I hope you can come back soon Phil and ride with us a bit more!

Hans gets riding!

Hans came to us as a part of his ‘avoid cold sweden for a few months’ trip. He’s chosen places you normally think of to relax, to try extreme sports. Great plan Hans!! So after learning surfing in Bali, he came to us to learn Kitesurfing in Thailand, and then he’s off to Nepal to do white water rafting. Jealous?? I am!!!….

Hans started his time with a one day refresher, got riding on the first day, and then just got better and better. At the end of his 10 days he was comfortably going upwind and making nice carve turns – and coping with all conditions. Quite an achievement Hans – well done!

Secret Garden Party festival organisers Tim and Jo had a cracking start to their kitesurfing career – learning in very light wind and then getting thrown about by too much wind. They built up a lot of experience in just a short number of hours on the water. Well done fellas!

Kombi Kite Tour 1

Finally we’re ready for our first tour. Essential equipment – kites, check – boards, check – van serviced, check – van lowered (very important), check…

The plan so far is:

Day1: Leave pranburi, head for Bang Saphan – couple of bays there that we may be able to kite at
Day2: head for Chumphon – relax, maybe kite if possible
Day3: Samui! maybe late, we’ll have to wait for the car ferry.
Day4-6: Samui kiting – probably the west coast for this season’s prevailing winds
Day7: head to Laem Son national park – arriving late
Day8-9: Laem Son kiting – there’s a flatwater spot and a waves spot. Bring it on!
Day10: back to pranburi
